estrogen would solve so many of my problems but I can’t access diy because I don’t have a job and since my parents manage all my healthcare getting a prescription would show up on the record and be visible

Not necessarily. Mine doesn’t. I’ve been on hrt for months and my mom doesn’t know. You should call your insurance company and ask cause I know it can vary.

you can also ask to self-pay at a clinic and not use/disclose your health insurance. planned parenthood can usually even offer sliding scale fees. then just use a goodrx coupon to help with the prescription costs. it’s definitely possible to access hormones without going DIY, but if money is a problem then you probably need to look for a part-time job first. maybe work-study on your campus?

Yes I did that as well for the first few months!! (Hadn’t met my deductible yet) and I still use GoodRx for one prescription my insurance doesn’t cover. It was honestly comparable to my insurance once I met my deductible but I also live in quite a safe state so your mileage may vary. But I’d definitely look into that cause it’s certainly a good option.

unfortunately I don’t quite have enough time to do work study or a job of any kind since I’m working a volunteer research position. i’m entering my last year though so hopefully not much longer before I’m employed. thing is, my parents literally have login access to my blue shield acc, I gave them that access when I was younger and still presenting as cis and didn’t know any better. been asking them for some time to let me independently manage my care but they’re not budging

yeah, that’s why i said do not disclose insurance information to whatever clinic and pharmacy you go to. they all offer self-pay options, some are just more affordable than others. unfortunately, without any funds it will be difficult to access. i still recommend calling planned parenthood or a local queer health clinic and asking about their fees/support programs. i think it was like $90~ for an appt and bloodwork + $25 for meds the last time i paid out of pocket (for six months). just for ref.
