How do you deal with wanting to transition but worrying about what people in your life will think? For example I feel like if I start to transition I can never show my face at the place I volunteer again because I’ll have disappointed everyone there.

At the end of the day, you only got you. You have to choose what’s safest. If people react adversely, they are not people to keep around. Much love

i totally get this. i was pre t when i started my job. i’m almost a year and a half on t and haven’t come out yet. i literally stopped my shots and skip doses bc i don’t want people to know. but at the same time i hate going by deadname and she/her

Or my parents. If I transitioned I know they’d be supportive but I also know they’d be uncomfortable and sad. No matter how kind and accepting they are I’d still be killing their daughter

One of the main things that’s stopped me transitioning for years is this heavy guilt and shame. I get more desperate to transition every single day but I feel like I’m trapped. Like I can never actually do it. So many people will hate me or be devastated

I guess the best thing to do is shift your mindset. as opposed to thinking of it in terms of "killing their daughter" think of it more like... a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. sure it's different, but it's not bad, you'd simply be growing into who you are. also making the choice not to transition could lead to adverse mental health that may also lead to the death of their daughter. ultimately transitioning is a personal journey and it's about your mental health.

possibly thinking of it as solving a health issue would make it more acceptable to you. And yeah there may be some people that don't like it, transphobia will always exist, but you'd be surprised how many people there are that will support you.
