Hey so uh question for other trans girls. At what point in yalls transition did you start to get period hormone cycles? Cause I know that’s a thing and I feel sad as hell for barely any reason right now.

I’m a few days out from four years. I had my first cramps and emotional disregulation about three months in. They’ve been towards the end of the month/start of the month pretty consistently since then.

If it helps you contextualize, pms & period symptoms are common but not universal among ppl with ovaries (and are possibly actually due to hormone imbalance!) so if you don't experience cycles like that, it doesn’t mean your hrt isn't working. I believe the ppl who tend to get mood swings (cis and trans) are people who are on longer-acting e/prog/spiro, like shots, and it happens less on pills bc your dose is more consistent

Okay yea it’s definitely been enough time for me then cause I’m five months in. I haven’t had any cramps yet but I feel so sad and just generally depressed today. Like I have some stressors but they don’t feel related to how I’m feeling if that makes sense? If anything it just feels like me being sad and pessimistic about them is why they’re stressful.

yeah every so often i'm just... really annoyed, honestly my boyfriend noticed it and put together that it was a period cycle before i did (at least emotionally, I did ofc notice the cramps)

not everyone gets cramps, but you'll know if you do, they don't feel like any other sort of cramp, they occur (for me) generally in the lower back area

Damn in your back? That’s surprising. I’ll look out for them lol but I wouldn’t say I overtly WANT them lmao. Also how can you tell the difference between hormonal emotions and regular ones? Cause like I can’t fully tell if I’m just regular sad or hormonal sad rn lmao

for hormonal emotions versus regular? ehhh it's kinda hard to tell, I'd say keep track of how you're feeling, if there are days where you're feeling especially bad or emotional, note it, see if there's a pattern

Yea yea gotcha. Maybe I’ll start a note on my phone lol. I was also especially hungry today so that is also probably a signal lmao💀😭

Huh weird. I have heard that individual experience is super variable tho so that makes sense. And tbh it might be puberty-type hormones rather than period-type hormones. Like 1 said I’ll likely have to track it to be sure tbh lol.

Okay so everyone so far who has them has said they appear a few months in which seems to track with my experience too. Haven’t had cramps yet tho. But maybe those will come once I get on injections and my E levels level off lol. But tbh I won’t be disappointed if they don’t😭 Also congrats on four years that’s awesome!!!!

It could be your dosage, method of administration, or maybe you just won’t. Your mileage WILL vary. I hope injections well for you, though! They didn’t for me 🫠

Thank you!! I think they will I’ve mostly heard positive things. And I’m not too needle-shy. I might’ve talked to you before tho lol cause I remember talking to someone who had trouble with injections. Might just be two people tho who knows.

May have been me. Most complaints I see about it are really just centred around the needle. I don’t care about needles, but home girl was exhausted and grouchy the entire time even though my levels were fine. Body really said “Yeah, we have it… we just won’t use it.”

Huh weird. Usually injections lead to the most absorption for like any medication. But bodies are weird so who knows what could’ve happened. So you literally just didn’t get the results despite your levels being fine is that what you mean? And like it was causing you to get tired and grouchy?

Pretty much! Blood tests came back in range, but I felt exhausted and groggy like I did when I was out of pills and the pharmacy took their sweet ass time to refill them. It took a little while after starting injections for it to pick up, but I had to get off of them because I couldn’t focus on anything otherwise.

That’s literally so weird. I have no clue how an injected medication would just not work for some reason. I’m no medical professional but that doesn’t make any sense lol.
