So if I can’t shower myself when I get top surgery, can someone else sponge bath me? Can someone else wash my hair? I’m autistic and genuinely quite worried about this as it relates to my sensory difficulties.

from what ive seen yes you can sponge bath and wash your hair, the issue is just that your dressings need to stay dry which makes showering specificqlly impossible. so it looks like sponge bath and sink washing your hair should be ok! if youre ever super worried you can always ask your doctor as well

my surgeon had me shower with my back facing the water but my dressings were allowed to get wet as well. just take off your binder cause the binder can’t get wet. if you’re really worried about sensory, you’ll just have to be okay with being musty for a bit longer

It’s not being musty that makes me uncomfortable, it’s that I can FEEL stuff on my skin and scalp. But it seems like I can work around not showering, so I might be ok

Ok thank you! I’ll obviously ask my doctor once I have one, but it was one of my anxieties about the whole process
