Not really trans related but I live with my family and aunt; my aunt suddenly decided she’s gonna double the rent to 3k. I’m unemployed and my mom is a teacher. What r some low experience, flexible jobs that r easy to get 😭.

A lot of stocking jobs. Maybe you could get into tutoring if you have any bit of college experience, too.

I’m not looking to contribute to the trans homelessness statistic

I don’t think it’s legal to double rent in such a short period.

bussing tables or washing dishes at a restaurant seems to be entry level! (also wishing you luck!!)

Can u ask her if she would consider raising it in a way that doesn’t double it as you find a job. And if she says no can you consider other cheaper living options.

I’m in Cali. 3k is the “market rate”

Check the lease. There should be a clause about how much the rent can be raised by. If you do not have a lease you need to make her draft one. You need tenant's rights! -someone also from cali

She’s looking to increase it to 2.5 in September, then 3k later on. My mom is currently paying 1.5k. My aunt doesn’t change her mind, I’m gonna talk to mother dearest about getting a lawyer

Yeah that’s illegal. Here is a screenshot of the relevant documentation from ca.gov (there's a second page you can find on your own from looking up the title)

Already checked, there’s no jobs 50 miles within my area 🤩

I suggest (if you want to be cordial with your aunt, and possibly avoid a lawyer and court) sending her that document & any other legal things you find for your specific area of CA about your rights involving rent stability. Otherwise, the doc I screeshotted has a place to go for low-cost lawyers. If you need any help with any of this, feel free to DM me

Hoping that’ll work. She randomly announced the increase after hanging out with my Trumpie asshole uncle, which probably isn’t a coincidence

Awesome, I love that. Is your uncle anywhere in the bay area perchance? I would love to have a nice fun sit-down conversation with him about traditional family values

Yeah, especially since she can then just “double the rent again” randomly and boom, now you have to scramble
