thinking of quitting my job where i have to present as a cis guy. i thought i could handle it but my line of work involves a lot of socializing and i just flat out cannot do that w/o being my true self

I thought that at my job too until someone trans was hired and everyone was fairly chill about it. I realized I was more scared of how I imagined ppl would react than how they actually did react to a trans person irl. Now I’m just kinda slowly presenting more femme until it gets to the point where me being trans can’t be ignored 🤷‍♀️

what do you do that forces you to present cis?

so i work in insurance, and i have to work under my legal name and present masculine because the company literally can't let me use any other name but my legal name, including nicknames, for some reason. and i don't think i can get it changed anytime soon bc A) i live in a red state and B) personal conflicts

I believe name changes aren’t an issue in red states besides the standard fee and wait, even if it’s a differently gendered name

how do they require/enforce you to present masculine? and are there any women at the job?

my boss is Old Fashioned i guess and only lets guys wear suits when we're in the office, i can't even wear my clip on earrings. the women at my job have a much looser dress code and i got office femmode accordingly, in fact my boss even complimented me when i initially showed up in femmode

I’m just saying, my job has a sorta blue collar masc uniform (cargo pants, boots, and a collared shirt) but there are still women at the job. you can still grow out your hair and put it in a bun, or wear women’s cut clothing and light eye makeup, or paint your nails. I’ve found the constraints of the uniform help me to look for the subtle things that make my female coworkers still *look* femme
