My gf (mtf) told me that she frequently naps on public transit. Am I wrong that I told her that it’s dangerous for women to do so and to stop? We live in NYC for reference.

To whoever downvoted me: can u plz inform me why I’m wrong? I’m ftm and was told growing up that I am not allowed to nap on public transit bc it’s dangerous for a woman so I’m just telling her what I was told

The wording here sounds like you are telling her what to do. It can be helpful to explain risks you’re aware of and how to avoid them, but ultimately, she’s an adult and can make her own decisions

Advise her fs because this is terrifying but don’t directly tell her what to do

Naw see stuff like this is my biggest problem with my transition My ass has no survival instincts much less enough to survive as a girl The amount of times I just leave my drink fully unattended at a bar to use the bathroom or something and get back a little disappointed in myself like 😭😭😭

Yeah, wording things as a command makes me automatically want to do the opposite, but I also would never sleep on public transit. I have to take quick-acting anti-anxiety pills as needed before I get on the bus here in Roc and carry a stun-gun with me. I couldn’t imagine leaving myself that exposures.

Especially if she’s napped with no issue before and is familiar with living in NYC

Im worried bc there is a lot of violence against women in nyc public transit and trans women in particular have been targeted and harassed and even killed. But yeah it’s her choice

the worry is valid and I personally would never want to fall asleep on public transit as a trans woman. she is her own person so it’s ultimately her choice, however your concern is very valid. if you told her about your concern and how you feel rather than telling her what to do, she may be more receptive
