Question. Should illegal, undocumented individuals be deported back to their country of origin? Or should they receive free health care at the tax payers expense?

Deported under due process with open options for legal return (and support to do so)

Fair trial to determine if they’re here legally or not and if not then they should be sent back to their home

Deported. If they want to come here legally there is a way. Many many many people have done it successfully. I work wayy too damn hard to pay for someone else’s living expenses while barely being able to afford my rent

Should they spend time in jail? Or pay a stiff fine for illegal entry?

They only broke two minor laws. Entering on an unauthorized entry port and being a noncitizen without carrying proof of residency. Both technicalities. Jail time can be up to their native country, because there’s really no need to waste time and money imprisoning them or chasing them down to pay up a fine when we can simply support immigration reform and irradiate the need to break the laws they have broken

So, DUI first offense is a misdemeanor also, that doesn’t make it a “technicality”. Actually unlawful entry by an alien 8 USC 1325, is a federal crime which means it comes with heavier penalties. A crime is a crime. And a federal crime is a pretty big deal.

And what does a better job at preventing future DUIs? Throwing them in jail or taking all their money through fines (leading to more stress and a higher likelihood of abusing alcohol, thus increasing risk of dui) or giving them alcohol addiction support and further therapy to reduce the risk of reoffending? (Oh and guess which one is cheaper too)

They do that in jails. We need accountability. We can’t give people slap on the wrist. DUI could take the life of innocent people and yourself. They have classes you can take in jail. And if it’s first offense, most times they will put you on probation and order you to take such classes but you will go to jail for DUI.

DUIs where lives are taken are issued vehicular manslaughter charges and jail time. Your argument is falling apart here. Coming into the country at a fence and not having a piece of paper that says “I pwomise I can be here Feds” couldn’t kill someone. Also the current system does not reduce DUIs, so why should we base immigration systems off of a failing one? So…Sorry champ?

I mean that’s the state you live in not mine. Also you are the one that brought up illegal entry as a misdemeanor is a technicality. It’s not. A DUI is a state crime whereas illegal entry is a federal crime which again, comes with higher penalties. So no it’s not a technicality. My argument still stands and is strong. A crime is a crime. Don’t overstay your visa and don’t come to the US illegally.

If a crime is a crime I need you to be thrown in jail IMMEDIATELY for - Jaywalking at any point in your life - using any illicit substance or age restricted product underage (every pre 21 sip of alcohol is 12 years behind bars minimum now) - using a name other than your own government name online (The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act) - going even 1mph over the speed limit at any point - rolling through a stop sign - ever used free wifi of a business you weren’t actually at? Straight to jail
