They don’t even pretend to talk about policy anymore, it’s full mask off ā€œthey’re not white and we should hate themā€

Not even conservatives take libs of TikTok seriously anymore. It’s a joke of an account and I can’t even remember the name of the ā€œinfluencerā€ who runs it

Okay, but we all agree that our tax dollars going to celebrate Somali Independence Day is not appropriate use of funds, right?

Minneapolis, among other cities, hosts big events each year for Somali Independence Day. I get celebrating other cultures and religions, but another nation’s independence day is not something the state should be putting resources into, especially with so many more pressing issues in homelessness and medical care crisis.

The people who live in those cities have every right to vote in politicians that don’t choose to do that. What do I care if a city I don’t live in is doing that? At the end of the day if there’s a large enough population for it to be a celebrated holiday then by all means celebrate it

I’m absolutely with you there. And the residence have every right to complain about their own government not representing them without getting attacked and labelled as racists for speaking up.

So I looked into that and it doesn’t look like the Minneapolis gov even funds that event. Libs of tiktok is not from that community, and most of the stuff being posted is racist bs from outside agitators. If someone is saying they don’t like someone because they’re a particular race or background, that is literally racist. You could not like someone find they’re a douche, which come in all races and sizes, you can’t not like them for existing as they are though

Immigrants have always celebrated their homelands’ traditions when getting here, that’s how Oktoberfest & St. Patrick's day got here. Everyone ends up assimilating by the third gen and just sees themselves as American with roots to some far away whatever land. My ancestors spoke German in their legislature for like 20 years, ppl were racist against them, their descendants like me are seen as American as anyone else now

It is hosted by the city. Where are you seeing that the funding comes from elsewhere? Libs of tiktok’s account largely acts as a news aggregator, so she’s going to talk about national trends which a massive increase in Somalian population across many towns in the US would qualify as. Hating someone for their race or ethnicity is racist, certainly. Being upset that your town’s demographics have rapidly changed and you feel it no longer represents you or the interests? That’s democracy.

Right, but the issue is rates and volume here. If a town or city rapidly received so many German immigrants that it is resulting in electing several German nationals, causing a clear shift in priorities away from the existing residence, there would rightfully have been an issue there. This is exactly what’s happening.

An event happening in a city doesn’t mean the city funds it. The burden of proof on establishing a link of funding from Minneapolis gov to that event is on you, since you brought it up. I tried looking for that link myself and found nothing to substantiate the claim at all. I’d assume the community funds the event themselves. Libs of TikTok is a racist brainrot propagandist. I’m upset that Kansas City is being overrun with Texas terrible drivers and California fake ppl, it doesn’t mean I’m going

To racialize them and start discriminating or posting about how they’re here to take over and ā€œdestroy civilizationā€ or whatever usual slop those types of accounts post—even though I don’t like the places they come from. I treat people as individuals, democracy is dependent on the upholding of principles like that

Trying to force them to assimilate instead of just letting time take its course is why we see Europe struggle with it.

Every immigration wave in this country’s history has shifted demographics and obviously changed governance policy as a result of that changed voting group. That’s democracy. That’s literally what happened when my ancestors got here and yours unless you’re Native American. I’m actually for limiting immigration personally to curb some of that and allow a culture stabilization point, but I’m not going to be racist against people already here—that’s stupid and immoral

What would you say if christian nationalists, en masse, move to your town and set up communities for more of their own to rush in, and once they are a large enough voting block they elect one of their own? Are you just gonna be like ā€œshit, that’s democracy. No point in fighting, guess we’re an anti-birth control town nowā€?

Well me and the area I’m in are pretty right wing, but that’s a very different situation: one is of immigrants coming and participating in pre existing structures—the other is people fundamentally at odds with democracy trying to subvert the existing structures to end the system—which they have publicly declared is their goal. Now that’s the caricature slop propagandists try to paint of Muslims, but they don’t actually have any proof of that and are just plainly bigoted
