Usually metal detector, might have to take off belt or heavy jacket depending on country, might have to take off watch depending on country, but usually you can leave shoes on. I can’t remember if your liquids have to be separate from the rest of the bag but most countries adhere to the 3.3 oz (100 mL) rule. Some airports in Europe (Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, maybe some others) and a couple in the US are testing CT scanning machines that allow liquids up to 2L to be scanned

So we could see that rule being lifted soon. Likely sooner for Europe though as TSA doesn’t expect a full rollout until 2040. Apparently the machines are heavy and sometimes require the floors to be reinforced 💀
