Both sides do this, but I’ve literally never heard a conservative make a substantive policy argument. Especially since conservatives, in my experience with them, tend to be much more culture-war focused, and in that arena all you really CAN do is moralize

I do feel like part of this is because the leftists (and left-leaning folks) who make policy arguments do such because they realize the DNC’s minority rights method of campaigning doesn’t work! trying to base actual policy on “well some people aren’t treated fairly because of race/sexuality/etc” is very limiting when compared to more widespread issues like class divide/disparity

Everybody believes that people who disagree with them are irrational, because that means that they are rational

Not that fighting for equality is worthless (I say, as a queer woman), just that it can feel less impactful than “hey maybe the 1% shouldn’t have 99% of the country’s wealth, that should be changed”

Yeah, the DNC wants to be intersectional without ever talking about the class intersections, which is never gonna work. The same way a class-reductionist analysis without any thought towards the other axes of oppression is also dogshit.

Yes, even today a lot of feminism overlooks intersectional feminism—being called too masculine (*based on race, sexuality, etc) to be a Real Woman goes against the typical patriarchal misogynistic “women can only do/be traditionally feminine roles,” though both are undoubtedly issues

Yeah lmao I got a cousin who’s a butch lesbian and can say with 100% confidence that she’s more “traditionally masculine” than like 99% of dudes (she owns a gym and was a California wilderness firefighter before that) and that does not in any way make her any less of a woman than any other woman. There’s also a pervasive trope of every strong woman being portrayed as more masculine, like strength and femininity are mutually exclusive traits.
