The infant adoption scheme in the US is genuinely abhorrent. There’s an advocate online who was in foster care herself as a kid, adopted, sent back to foster care, struggled with her own fertility, and when she finally did have a baby a social worker waited until her husband left to go with the baby for its routine tests and she was alone on pain meds to convince her to put her baby up for adoption. So many low income and/or single women have very similar stories
