He’s absolutely correct tho. I’ve been to the library once in the past 3 years and it’s literally just homeless people or boomers that don’t know $100 chromebooks exist. Nobody reading books anymore
I’m genuinely upset that y’all voted away this absolute gold. You need to leave stuff like this up it’s too funny.

Nah not my post but I posted something similar a while back. Certain places like libraries, cafes, fast food restraunrs dunkin donut ect.. become camping grounds for homeless people and drug addicts and get ruined for the rest of us

Oh wow you’re like actually fucking braindead You’re right, libraries don’t own anything important lol. They don’t need funding. Ignore the fact they often have massive historical archives, communal resources, that not every book has been digitized, that there’s stuff housed there not available for checkout, or anything like that. Not that you would know bc you clearly don’t give a shit abt what resources libraries actually have

Ban homeless people and drug addicts and I wouldn’t have a problem. Libraries aren’t very safe anymore. Less regular people go which was a big deterrence for that and now it’s just a influx of the bad crowd. Literally just becomes a camping ground.

You know what my hometown library does? It holds classical guitar concerts, it has art shows, it has movie rentals, kids summer camps, crafts nights, audiobooks subscriptions, free internet and computers, and thousands of books. I have driven an hour away to a massive public library in a nearby city because it had an exhibition of rare local Native American artifacts.

It’s funny because even throughout high school I would hang at my local library (not my high school one) because I was living with abusive parents, and in that entire time period not once experienced any problems with any of the people there. That includes homeless people. You’re just afraid of homeless people because you haven’t interacted with any for more than five seconds

The library in my new town is a center for community. It holds game nights, support groups, crafts classes, instrument clubs, writing classes, health seminars, pine needle basket weaving (sad I missed that). It’s a center for community and for education and I swear to GOD how in the year 2026 do you not realize it’s important to have physical media that doesn’t require a subscription.

Community centers and public spaces like library’s can be good if they are done correctly and security is appropriately enforced. Yall know exactly what I mean but acting dense. When I walk up to the door I don’t want to be greeted by a homeless man sleeping at the door and have no idea if he’s gonna attack me. Then that makes me not want to visit those public spaces anymore

We have a library in my community which which only residents can use. That one has zero homeless people and drug addicts because the community is gated and they have actual security in the neighborhood. But it’s a ghost town because everyone in my neighborhood owns a laptop and kindle already or books at home. Only time it’s ever used is like 2 weeks in summer bc they do something for kids

Not even doing math just mentally visualizing rate based on the amount I paid when filing my taxes and my net worth and comparing it to Elon’s. Seems to be about the same to me

Anonymous replying to -> #5 1d

That’s not a punishment. Thats just him already having more money than he could possibly need in a human lifetime. A very poor person needs all the money they can get. A 5% tax rate could ruin them. Someone like Elon musk won’t even notice if he loses 5% of his money. That’s just a number to him. He could lose 80% of his money and it wouldn’t affect his quality of life at all.

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 1d

I wouldn’t mind lowering the tax rate. Like you said, it doesn’t matter if Elon is taxed 5 or 80 percent, but it matters if the poor person is taxed 5 percent. Why not just lower the tax rate then? Problem solved!

Do you expect to fix our debt or budget deficits any time within the next 500 years?

upvote 3 downvote

Because we need to fund infrastructure. This is why poor people should be taxed very little and rich people should be taxed more. That’s the entire conceit of a progressive tax rate.

Libraries do so much more tangible good than so much of the dumb other shit we spend taxes on. Like we are funneling billions into more guns for cops, bombs for Israel, and corn subsidies. But you’re worried about the libraries.

The point is libraries, parks, roads, rec centers, county pools are all things that actually benefit local people. Stuff with tangible benefits to the local communities. Of all the shit we pay our taxes for, those public services actually go back to the community.
