why do rightoids only ever talk about the canadian healthcare system as if it’s the end-all-be-all of single payer programs?

like don’t get me wrong there’s areas where it’s very clunky, but overall it’s better than the US system in my experience

only 14% of the UK population have private health insurance, so maybe refrain from lying?

I think the one legit criticism of the NHS is that they seem to not give pain meds as much as the US does during pregnancy? I might be misremembering. It was an anecdote

eh, my biggest gripe with the NHS is that there’s no option to pay for medications out of pocket, if there’s something you want that they don’t cover, you have to find a private provider for it, they simply won’t prescribe it. I currently have 2 different private providers (mounjaro and ADHD), but I’m still paying less per month than I did in the US.

like the concept of ‘i’ll prescribe it but it’s not covered so it’s on you’ isn’t a thing whatsoever, and I think it can make access to medications that may not be directly covered a higher-friction process

and like I had no expectation of getting mounjaro covered by the NHS, but i have to use an online pharmacy to get it prescribed and shipped to me, which feels a tad sketchy. In the US, my PCP would prescribe it and I would use a coupon from the manufacturer and pay out of pocket. It also kind of compartmentalizes treatment by distributing it among these other providers, who kind of aren’t responsible for the whole of your care like a PCP.
