Fr and the mentally ill- like boo I’m bipolar and my meds already $1000 a month. But I guess Im just crazy and the mentally ill shouldn’t be allowed to have firearms at all instead because THAT is the underlying problem 🙄

What about my own safety? The law currently is that if someone has been inpatient for psychiatric care they cannot get one, I think that is more fair. I mostly brought it up to point out that the mentally ill are only brought up in negatively and not cared for by the system

yeah I think there’s definitely room for discussion on firearm regulations for mentally ill folks. on one hand I understand the risks involved, on the other it’s not great precedent to abridge rights on the basis of mental illness, especially in a political environment where political opposition is deemed “mental illness”

Yes the latter is my point. Mentally ill people are dehumanized. I think there should be restrictions based on psychiatric history, not just diagnosis. For example if someone has a psychotic break and tries to hurt them self, that is different than me just living my life

personally I would like to live in a society with minimal presence of guns in general. but since we’re almost certainly not getting that we need to focus on equity

Yeah i phrase it as guns shouldn’t have progressed as far as they have in the first place. 2nd amendment was when it took forever for one shot 😭 but now that they’re here they’re here sadly
