
*we* don’t need to pay more, the ultra wealthy do. The ultra rich used to pay like 70% income tax and now they defacto pay like 0%. Yes there needs to be reallocation and transparency but taxes on the wealthy are legitimately artificiality low/lower than they’ve been basically ever in our history and it’s causing a massive deficit .
We collect $5.6 trillion in federal tax revenue annually. $2 trillion goes to Medicare/Medicaid. $1.7 trillion goes to social security. $1.1 trillion to pay interest on the debt. $0.65 trillion on income security. $0.3 trillion to pensions for federal employees. That already exceeds annual revenue without even factoring in defense or many other important programs. Which of these would you cut to pay for your preferred modes of spending?
