Bad Bunny seems like a pretty generic pop singer to me. Is there something I’m missing or do people genuinely just hate him because he’s bilingual

That’s the reason. Also he cancelled his concerts in the continental US because he thought they’d attract ICE and cause trouble for his attendees

People “hate” him because their orange handler told them to.

Yeah it's bc he's not white+bilingual. That's where we're at as a society 🫠

I think people are kinda turned off by him bc he was adamant about not performing in the US and then immediately proceeded to fold like a lawn chair when offered the Super Bowl clout.

Many of these Oakley-wearing hillbillies were laughing their asses off at his work in Happy Gilmore 2 and had lots of great things to say about him until Tiny Hands Drumpf started running his anus mouth on social media and have them a new directive.

I’m guessing the people who can afford to attend the Super Bowl are usually not the people ICE would go after

That’s not stopping ice from attending

Those people must be missing the nuance that a couple of concerts attended by his fans, which ICE would absolutely cause problems at, is totally different from performing on a stage watched by hundreds of millions of Americans and millions around the world. Who says he’s not going to make a political statement while on stage?

Have you seen the oh idk last 5 or 6 Super Bowl performers?

Shakira gets a pass because she’s white. They were absolutely not happy about Kendrick and people called it satanic 💀

I have a feeling even hardcore republicans would be pissed if ICE caused problems at the Super Bowl. That would tank his polling even further and give Dems endless ammo

Well I think that’s where the issue lies honestly. He’s gonna bring politics into a sporting event which imo doesn’t really need to be politicized. Not everything people do or attend needs to have some political undertone to it yk? A lot of people don’t want their lives consumed by political statements and activism and that’s ok.

The president himself attended the last Super Bowl. Sports are already politicized

Usher was a pretty big hit, so was Rihanna, and the 2022 performance with all of the hip hop icons/titans was pretty dope imo. Idk I just didn’t think bad bunny was an obvious choice and I do think politics had a role in him being picked. I think there were bigger name artists that I was kinda surprised to not see get a shot.

I think there’s a major difference between a president attending a sports event as a spectator and someone going on stage for 15-20min and performing in front of millions of people on a mic.

Politics? This is a business decision. Bad Bunny has the first album to reach 20B streams on Spotify. 2nd most streamed artist on Spotify (may have been first before Taylor’s latest album, idk). The American football market is saturated. There’s a reason the NFL plays in Munich, Dublin, London, São Paulo, etc. They want fans from all around the world and are considering having teams from other countries. The NBA has already done this

As part of NBA preseason, there are games against Chinese and European teams. The MLB has games in Japan. This is a business decision because they want viewers worldwide

You’re right, one is absolutely more political than the other lol. It’s the one where the president causes a ground stop at a major airport just so he can end up leaving the game early

Sure I’m just saying you can also look at Roc Nation who is a major decision maker for who is selected as the performer. They have said a lot of times their decision involves discussions about cultural significance and current trends. So I mean I think it’s fair to say they knew Bad Bunny would be a hot topic right now aside from his monetary success. At the very least, you can’t say they didn’t know what they were doing beyond business and album streams.

I mean I still see the blatant difference between being a spectator in the stands and a performer on the stage, yeah. It’s also not like he’s the only president to go out to major sporting events. Several presidents have in the past. That wasn’t even the first major sporting event Trump went to as president and I didn’t see people get up in arms over those other games he attended.

Maybe, but it’s not like the NFL didn’t agree with it for their own reasons. They took “end racism” off the end zones shortly after the election lol. They will do whatever Trump needs them to do, to a certain extent. Imagine if they pissed him off and the DOJ decided to hit them with an antitrust suit
