By purposely (I assume) letting themselves be captured they are basically forcing Sweden (and possibly by extension the rest of the EU) to confront Israel directly and ask for them back. I think people forget that there’s an aspect of theater to any effective protest in the sense that without doing some kind of “performance” as it were, you don’t get any attention. As was already pointed out, she’s really strategically using her celebrity status and EU citizenship to force a diplomatic confrontation between the EU and Israel in the event she’s kidnapped or killed. So yeah it’s performative in the sense that the main outcome is optics and forcing dialogue, but

Similar tactics were used during the civil rights movement, for example, where white students from the NE would come down and assist/put themselves in harms way because they knew unfortunately that would cause more of a stir back home and in other parts of the country than violence against black folks. This strategy isn’t anything new and I think she’s being really smart about it.
