I don’t think that’s necessarily true, I think it’s possible to both acknowledge the toxic elements of traditional masculinity while also embracing the positive elements. Like I love having my deep voice and broad shoulders as much as any man would, I love going to the gym and watching football and sipping brews, fishing, all that shit. I like being a strong and masculine man because I can protect the people precious to me.

It’s still toxic masculinity when someone’s like “boys don’t cry” or thinks that aggression is the only solution to their problems that doesn’t compromise their manhood or whatever. I think it’s totally cool to be masculine and draw a distinction between toxic and positive masculinity.

Democrats could and should absolutely do a better job of messaging around it, but I don’t think acknowledging “toxic masculinity” is the same as saying ALL masculinity is toxic.
