That’s kinda how it works. We’ve been paying them to other countries for years. Why can’t we do it to them?

We do. We were charged the tariffs and pay them. Now we charge other countries and they pay them…

no. WE pay money to import goods from those countries. every tariff you put on another countries imports is paid by american buyers.

when countries put tariffs on us, THEY pay money to import american goods. this is basic economics. none of the money raised is from other nations, it’s a tax on american businesses & consumers. it’s sales tax.

It inflates the amount the govt receives and places the charges onto the consumers. Thats not contradicting what I was saying. It supplements the overspending the govt was making. Allowing the govt to cut spending on wasteful programs. All while incentivizing foreign companies to come to america

yes, which means it is not being paid by other countries. we didn’t make anyone pay us money. and that is the point of my post. thank you.

so contrary to your original comment, no, not how tariffs work & also no, we did not pay other countries for tariffs they placed on us. that’s not what trade deficits are.

we pay the tariffs that we set on imported goods bro the point is doing this so companies will stop importing and start producing shit domestically because importing will become too expensive, regardless of whether or not we can actually produce it. like the tariffs on brazil, for example, are going to make coffee prices outrageous because we cannot produce it domestically outside of hawaii and it won’t be enough to supply the nation, so the tariff will be passed onto the consumer.

there’s a place for tariffs, especially if it’s something that we can produce ourselves and pay too much to import! placing tariffs on virtually every nation is a recipe for economic ruin.

Like I said before. This makes the price go up. Meaning the govt gets money out of the trade. But also incentivizes the foreign company to move domestically because consumers become less incentivized to by foreign products.

bro, we can’t just produce everything in the states, are you hearing that part? coffee bean companies, once again for example, cannot move domestically unless they want to go belly up.

you ARE repeating yourself and we’re telling you you’re wrong because you’re wrong bro

Not in production but in distribution… they can put up a kiosk of their own coffee to avoid these tariffs in this scenario or sell to a distributor who does own domestically.

It’s how the bill is written out lol. Even if it was how you describe, thats not what the bill says. But it’s not. May need to go back to macro-economics bro.

Sorry I hurt your feelings. Just commenting on how it’s helpful for the nation and incentives companies to move domestically. Which isn’t easy but should be a priority.
