i think what happened to irina zarutska was heinous and never excused no matter what but we do have to analyze why this is what we’re being shown in the media, this absolutely goes hand in hand with missing white woman syndrome where conventionally attractive white women are propped up by the media to be perfect victims and while there absolutely should be outrage, black women in the same situations should be given the same attention
I will say, I’m a Charlotte native. That story was running in Charlotte the moment it happened. It never hit national news until the Charlie Kirk thing happen. It’s sad but the media is the issue tbh. The national media pick and choose what to bring up.2 weeks later they decide to bring it up. Idk where I’m going with this but yeah🤣 I should’ve kept my two cents tbh but it’s too late.
I see your point and I hate to disagree but the guy who killed Nia Wilson was also arrested probably close to the same amount of times. Both were extremely preventable. But to #3, it doesn’t need to be made out as an issue of race. This is a justice system issue and a mix of democratic policy that both allow for lifelong criminals to be released repeatedly
i do think that race is something that needs to be considered if we want to see equitable justice for all victims of violence, black women are murdered at a rate 6x of their white counterparts but the majority of media coverage focuses on white victims, missing white woman syndrome is a documented phenomenon where conventionally attractive white victims have historically been those to receive more media coverage than black women
