The irony of demonizing non-violent Charlie Kirk and at the same time deifying violent Luigi Mangione who thought a firearm would do anything but objectively negligible damage to the Healthcare System HP will never not be funny.

The irony of condemning Mangione but being so propagandized that you don't think Brian Thompson raking in profits by denying people necessary healthcare isn't violence 🤣

kirk didn’t do reasonable debate, he mainstreamed far right propaganda through bad faith rhetorical tactics, in the guise of a ā€œdebateā€. he purposefully went against untrained unprepared people, with no structure, no set pro and anti positions, no topic, no judge, no rule set (which is not how a formal debate works). and when he did go against prepared opponents such as when he went to cambridge university he got his ass handed to him.

fascism is aesthetics as politics and kirk’s politics was the aesthetics of intellectualism

Addressing people on the level of a layman isn't always a bad faith debate

Ahh yes the well known fascist tactic of talking to your opponents about their ideas in an open format

i don’t think you’re very familiar with his work or with what debate looks like of with what having a constructive conversation in an academic context looks like

Yeah I'm by no means like a member of a debate team or anything, but the point of what he was doing wasn't to be that. A skilled debater can argue anything, regardless of their own agreement with it, he wanted to argue on what people did believe.

do you actually not know anything about political propaganda???? you should maybe go actually research that just in general for your own wellbeing since you seem particularly susceptible to

I've taken plenty of classes on media literacy and all that, I've never heard of what you're describing with fascism just being "politics as aesthetics", and imo you're watering down the meaning of an actually harmful ideology by saying thats all it is

I would argue the part of it that is fascist propaganda is deceptively editing the footage to make you look smarter before putting ads of that everywhere

Is fascist just a buzzword to you guys to describe stuff you don't like? Genuine question, because this could equally be applied to any propagandizing or sensationalism in media, not just fascist ones.

Even on here people would rather just get a quick "gotcha" and be done with the conversation then take the time to understand each others points and make a coherent counterpoint in favor of your own argument

i didn’t say that’s all it is lol. maybe you should take some history classes on fascism and political science classes. ā€œmedia literacyā€ isn’t a real class my guy unless you’re talking about an english course.

no it’s a political ideology rooted in reactionary politics. it’s often a response to crisis in an otherwise capitalist society wherein power is concentrated by redirecting the outrage of the people towards a scapegoat. in essence you choose a group that there is some historical bias against such as jewish people, immigrants, disabled people, gay people etc. and you use peoples existing biases to stir up outrage and blame the crisis on them instead of the systemic and structural issues

So explain to me how Charlie Kirk trying to make himself look better in his own advertising is an embodiment of this, I'm not seeing it

No i personally would use fascism to describe Kirk because he regularly would talk about ā€œdisproportionate Jewish influenceā€ in media and how he didn’t think black pilots were capable purely based off their skin color

people sometimes say that fascism is ā€œaesthetics and politicsā€ because it is necessary to play on people’s existing notions of what ā€œstrength, power, and purityā€ are, because fascists don’t have a real plan. for example hitler rose to power post world war 1 when germany was in economic ruin following war sanctions. he grew popular through populist messaging (mostly over radio) blaming the jews, and ā€œdegeneratesā€ (gay, trans, disabled, poor people etc) for ruining germany

and promised to bring it back to its former glory (starting to sound familiar?). much of his efforts when in office were on that of pretending to make germany a strong military force in the world again and rid germany of his political enemies. he started by targeting communists, burning or otherwise destroying scientific research mostly about trans people and gay people, and removing citizenship for jewish people so he could legally detain and or deport them and you know the rest

the current right wing MAGA movement shares a lot of political DNA in common with fascist moments of the past. the mythologized past we must return to, blaming historically oppressed groups instead of structural issues which appears to be countercultural at first glance but ultimately concentrates power in the hands of the already wealthy elite, a focus on maintaining a strong man image without any actual focus on effective policy, targeting political dissonants

abusing the law to do undemocratic things legally (basically everything hitler did the entire time was 100% legal because the courts allowed him to do so), the anti intellectual destruction of research especially targeting queer people, the faux intellectualism that aimed to legitimize hateful ideology (that’s why the world antisemitism exists, because jew hate didn’t sound scientific), the pointless wars of conquest that are ultimately lost because again there is no real plan
