My best friend during my freshman year of college was an old homeless guy named Michael. One of the most interesting guys I ever met. I took the bus downtown to talk to him on his bench a few hours every week. They aren’t actually that scary, trust me.

Justinian I don’t know what the fuck #1’s problem is, but I think that’s really cool! I admire you for bucking social convention to cultivate a meaningful connection! All the freshmen who had a bunch of “friends” in Greek life probably had less real, enriching human connections than you did

Don’t you think it’s strange that as a freshman in college your best friend was a random homeless man? Maybe it’s time to do some reflecting lol

Like that’s not normal. You should be asking yourself why you dont have regular friends. Hopefully things changed since but that would be an eye opener to me and make me want to fix whatever I got going on wether its personality or mental issues

im not making this up. He came to Cali from Tennessee. He has a paralyzed pinky finger. He was super smart and knew as much about ancient Rome as I did. One day he went back to Nashville again and I haven’t seen him since. That was a few years ago though.

hey look man, it was an awkward time for me socially and I bought him coffee because he seemed nice and looked cold one day. One chat turned into a few more, which became a usual thing for a few months.

Genuinely though, this guy could have been a history professor. He ended up homeless because of medical debt from a spinal surgery. It actually helped radicalize me.

You’re kind of a pos you know that? You’re also dead damn wrong about medical debt, it’s one of THE major causes of homelessness in the U.S.
