Guys… I think Gavin Newsom has a good shot. Not only that but I think he’s more aggressive than, say Kamala or Biden but not a perfect opposite to Trump, like he doesn’t want to be a dictator but also doesn’t wanna hold hands and sing Kumbaya

he would need to be leveled by someone whose current political presence isn’t just “being a trump parody and trolling MAGA” bc yes while newsom’s bit has been working, the Democratic Party *needs* to give him a running mate that they can point to like “yes we promise this potential presidency is capable of sense”

Conservatives hate him as a person more than they were apathetic about Kamala. They didn’t hate Kamala per se, just the representation of the continued Biden agenda. They absolutely loathe newsom tho. Putting him on the ballot would further divide the country. Whether or not that is the right step is another discussion tho

We’re not trying to get conservatives to vote blue, just moderates and undecided voters. Thats where democrats have been failing is trying to play the middle.

Biden won because he wasn’t Trump. Biden couldn’t effectively unify anyone except for his infrastructure bill

The republicans openly joke about the mass murder of people they don’t like. There’s nothing the democrats could do that would make even the slightest difference in how divided this country is. They need to play dirty and do whatever it takes to preserve democracy. Realistically there is not going to be a free election in 2028 though, seeing as the GOP’s backers have been planning to end democracy since as far back as Reagan.
