If we’re talking about things being increasingly privatized, let’s first talk about what REALLY deincentivizes people: not being able to afford medical school. Which the right continues to make increasingly impossible for the average man by trying to eradicate Grad PLUS loans. If you’re worried about limiting the talent pool, take a look at what’s already causing our shortages.
I can’t afford it either. I don’t have $240k laying around and my parents are leaving me to fend for myself. But fuck it, I’m doing it anyways. What makes it worth it is the fact that I don’t see myself doing anything else with my life, I truly want to help people, and my future salary will be able to take on that debt. It’s not as restrictive as you think.
I’m sorry did you not hear me? Grad PLUS loans (currently) have been voted out by the House. People like you, who can’t afford school, the VAST majority of people, will no longer be able to take out federal loans for medical school & you don’t think that will have repercussions on who has access. If your plan is to sell your soul to Sally Mae with 300K dollars on a 9% variable interest loans, feel free. But if other people cannot it’s not for a lack of fucking passion. 💀 Good god.
