I wouldn’t say NOBODY wants it, I’ve spent half my life in WV and a ton of people here think that brining the industry back will fix every problem that their little podunk town has. Not defending this at all btw, even if ts goes perfect coal is still a limited resource and all the mining towns will go right back to dilapidation the moment that the company decides it’s no longer worth the money

We have a whole goddamn abandoned mine reclamation program but we gotta make them not kill local towns and be death traps and stuff. Like we’re literally working on doing it safe but he banned mentioning climate change and the environment in reports so he can just fucking reopen them all willy-nilly and poison the water supply of the people
