i never said that. i said that people who assume no one older in their families could have possibly been racist, when i have a grandmother who is not decrepit who fully remembers and grew up in the segregationist south is naive af, because there are ppls grandparents who were also there at that time. so if you dont know explicitly that they WERENT involved, its not unreasonable to question if they were…reading is fundamental 😘

funny enough, if youve ever heard of the little rock 9, thats my moms alma mater. 20ish years after it happened but. that happened in 1957 and my grandma lived in arkansas all her life. she would’ve been 9 at the time. like ppl dont think some of the children that were students or the kids of parents who were there screaming at black children for integrating the school are still alive??? like look at the photos? there were kids in that crowd lmao u thought they just vanished???

thats crazyyyyy. but yeah im glad they not only told you, but taught u better. i fear thats not what happened across a lot of the south, or it was the exact opposite and encouraged. which unfortunately explains a lottttt about how things are down here today😭

Oh god yeah. I see it with my cousins who stayed in same Parish as my granddad. There are just as many Confederate flags as there are American flags in some parts of that Parish.

Yep. I was lucky enough that my mom made it out of that Parish, I grew up in a relatively decent part of the State. That part of the family lives on the border between the “Cajun” area and the more WASPY, racist side of the state. The only worse parts of Louisiana are the areas filled with the factories that cause the really bad cancer rates.

I learned one of the towns we’d pass through every trip there was a Sundown town in college. Like, it was one of those towns that had a documented “whites only after sundown” signs. Taken down well before I was born but from everything I’ve heard and read shit really hasn’t changed there

Oh god I don’t blame you. We never really ventured out to West Louisiana often. If we had to we’d take the quicker route through Shreveport to avoid the really bad parts.
