Why? SpaceX has been able to make space launches a lot more affordable. A Falcon 9 launch costs just $2,700 per kg of payload. The old space shuttle cost $54,000 per kg of payload. SpaceX has created a way simpler, reusable design. Pretty soon, we might be able to achieve launches for <$10 million… something completely utterly unimaginable (as in impossible) before Elon Musk came along

Who said we should stop relying on spacex? If nasa has 5% of the budget and reusable launch vehicles, they could focus all of their efforts on deep space vessels/science.
