Dems: the progressives are asking for too much What the progressives are asking for: “Can we maybe not back a genocide” “Healthcare without being bankrupt would be nice” “Maybe don’t turn on trans people at the drop of a hat” “Public transport please?”

I understand advocating for these policies and I support most of them, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that these are huge policies that we will have to make sacrifices for.

what kind of sacrifices would need to be made to (1) not kill people, (2) get care that we’re entitled to, (3) respect other people, and (4) get amenities that many other places have? the only things i see as “sacrifices” is that for 2 and 4 we pay more in taxes, to which i say where the fuck are my taxes going anyways, at least these are things that actually benefit me that i wouldn’t mind paying for

similarly, how are any of these “huge” policies? these seem pretty darn simple, or even just based in behavior, not even necessarily policy

this kind of thinking is why other countries are progressing past us. if you’re against progress, you’ll stay stuck it’s pretty simple. the only reason they are “huge policies” is because our politicians are against them. sacrifice is going to be made regardless, our policies are exacerbating the unsustainably of our economy and the environment. the quality of life here is inevitably going to decrease, i think it would be smart to advocate now

There are reasons why the US is allied to Israel, and if we give up our relationship, we also give up a lot of soft power over them. I’m not saying you should do it, I just think you should understand why people don’t want to. Depending on the type of public healthcare care, there will be a major change in people’s insurance, and we need to fund it somehow. I generally agree that trans people are unfair treated. Public transport depends on what scale you’re talking about

Putting a metro in Houston for example would be very difficult due to the low population density and huge investment already made into highways

I think you absolutely should advocate for these policies, just don’t pretend like everyone agrees with them. It’s not just the politicians, there is a huge ideological divide in this country. People like tax cuts. People like their doctors and insurance. If you want to be more like Europe, we need higher taxes, and probably more apartments and less single family homes. Those are sacrifices that a lot of people don’t want to make.
