I mean you would need to move the lever into a position that would force the trolley off the tracks, if I was the driver in this scenario I would do my best to send the trolley off the tracks even if I got injured in the process

Well if you wanna be really technical the lever dude isn’t actually on the trolley anyway. And also, isn’t the whole point minimizing casualties? It’s very possible nobody is on the trolley at all, and if you don’t clarify this it just makes the whole thought experiment useless. You can derail it ( I think) by making it so the tracks don’t divert one way or another by jamming the switch halfway.
