The Catholic Church becoming a fucking monolith in the way of the US government is a very pleasant surprise. Pope Francis hated JD Vance, Pope Leo hates JD Vance, writing to Congress disapproving of the BBB, and sheltering immigrants from ICE

Catholics united Europe in their dark ages, committing atrocities all the way, for a piece of far away land they considered important. Imagine when it’s their homeland pressing them with raids of their churches.

The Catholic Church has very shameful parts of its history. Currently, we are on the right side. Our God smiles down on us as we practice His teachings.

Also only God is without sin, I am well aware. Even Christ sinned, as it is human nature. Not everyone follows the pope’s decrees as law, but to actively go against some of the core teachings of Christianity is worse. Look at the Evangelicals with their hearts full of hate and tongues covered in venom.

Technically yes and no. He absolutely broke some of the 613 Mitzvot, and technically speaking he had is disciples “steal” a mule. However, the first part is more or less the whole point of the new testament, abolishing rules such as stoning prostitutes, and the second part is more presented as a miracle rather than theft

Christ felt the pulls of temptation but in Himself He never sinned. He couldn’t sin since He is eternally God and existent outside of time, even when taking flesh from the Theotokos and assuming humanity. Regarding the whole JD Vance thing, and I’m not Catholic, but his inability to show reverence for the new pontiff was a sign to me that he wasn’t going to compromise his American position and beliefs for his Catholic faith. Which as a Christian is unfortunate, but given the president he work

*works for, I can’t say I’m surprised. Neither the response of the previous and current pontiff to the actions our government is taking. But what can you do when this “Christian” nation supports an Israel that isn’t the true and new spiritual Israel (the Church) and perverts the scriptures defined for the Church by the Church and in the Church. Can’t say I’m remotely surprised the Pope is against Vance. God bless from an Orthodox Christian ❤️

Catholic here too. Its the difference between American catholicism and Catholicism around the world. I acknowledge the irony that the current pope is American but still

Yes but his pastoral life he hasn’t been in the states really. He’s well traveled and understands other areas of the world that are Catholic majority regions.

The Catholic Church hasn’t really held much influence in the day to day happenings of America ever. Only two presidents have ever been Catholic, JFK and Biden. For a long time and even to this day, Catholics in America have been portrayed as “unpatriotic” for their allegiance to the pope. Catholics in the US mainly fought to teach their children the Bible using their versions and interpretations as well as against abhorrent practices such as forced conscription of immigrants.

So yes, reactionary against aggression, such as we are currently seeing with the illegal ICE raids of Catholic Churches, but not in the sense that Catholics are proactive in the undermining of Evangelical and Federal power in the States

I’m gonna say it again slower for your paste-eating ass. ICE, the FEDERAL ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, is illegally entering my religions places of worship, and they are rounding up members of my religion. Even if who they grab isn’t Catholic, the FEDERAL ENFORCEMENT AGENCY is still within the confines of a holy place and rounding up people who are seeking refuge within.
