
i think it has more to do with them being teachers than just studying history, but being specifically a history teacher also probably is a lot of it. like a history studier might be a history "buff" whos only interested in ww2 and gets a high from seeing NINETY GAZILLION DEAD! and the weapons used or whatever. the type to collect "memorabilia" but a history teacher is primarily a teacher, working with kids or young adults, and wanted to be an educator. theres a very different approach there
As a history major, there is a difference between somebody who studies history and a history buff. Usually people who are history buff (at least in my experience) are anti-intellectual and care more about naming individual tanks from World War II. Where somebody who is a history major cares more about the effects events have on people and society.
