Fuck Private Education All my homies love to properly fund the public school system
“Parents Rights” in education is a dog whistle used by regressive conservatives who hate minorities. Sorry Sharon but you shouldn’t have the right to choose what your kid learns in health or history class 🤭

There’s an argument against private ed that it allows the wealthy to skirt around the (possibly) shitty public ed their area may provide, thus those with more influence in the community have no interest in improving it, and the education stays shitty. The main argument against homeschooling is that not everyone is capable of teaching lol

I wish it would be made illegal like it is in Sweden

Ahh, I see that makes sense. What if public schools are struggling even in areas without much private education? Is private schooling really the root problem?

Im not saying that private schools are the definitive reason public ones are hurting rn lol just that they can be a possible cause for why education improvement is slow or has stagnated in some areas It does usually come down to money tho

I’m going to need to simplify this a lot because some of it admittedly is high level stuff. I was a student teacher for two semesters before changing majors, so while I’m not a teacher, I got pretty far and have seen how the sausage is made. So just keep that in mind For one, private education is just bad in concept. We have research showing a standardized education across the board is best for a variety of reasons, and private education throws a huge wrench in that

Especially religious schools. Having a different curriculum and way of teaching for a chunk of the population is like having two different types of foundation trying to build one house off of. There’s a fundamental mismatch out there gate. Additionally, private education just isn’t much better either. Most of the benefits come from teachers being a bit better paid and less overworked. But in terms of educational outcomes, all factors equal, private education is no better than public education

We also have the social aspect. Let’s be real here, theres a lot of wealthy white people at a lot of private schools. Private schools essentially alienate kids from how the world is in general. At a public school, you have different social classes, races, ethnicities, and other groups. You want a multicultural society and one that has people interacting across class lines for a lot of social reasons

Finally private schools often can get away with a loooot of wacky shit that just is not educationally good for the children. Discipline, how classes are structured, how teachers teach. All that stuff I won’t make the argument that public education in America rn is good. There’s A LOT of problems. But they’re problems that can be fixed. Private education on a fundamental level is a net negative on society. The best possible education system would be a well funded robust public education system

And don’t even get me started on homeschooling. Basically a system that purely exists to abuse children and I’m only partially exaggerating that
