In Iraq, we actually “won” in a matter of weeks and then overstayed our welcome to the point where we left it worse than we found it, so I’m calling that a loss too

Iraq is a crazy case because we defeated the government we went to war with in the span of like 3 weeks, but then it was a war against the people in one of the most armed societies on earth, Iraq had such an armed populace that it was an outlier even in the generally heavily armed Middle Eastern region. And most of their weapons came from us in the Iran-Iraq War.
