I am going to be honest. I was naive. I was overly optimistic. As bad as things were getting, I really didn’t foresee Holocaust denial ever entering mainstream politics in America.

I can’t tell you how many dog whistles I see browsing “tame” historical education content online

Can you elaborate please? I believe you and I’m worried, I want ammunition to be able to use in future arguments

I watched a WW2 YouTube short (mind you, by an educational channel, certainly not a neo-nazi channel) and the first comment was 271k and the comment had way too many likes. I know the internet isn’t exactly real life but alot of mainstream political points did originate online.

It’s funny that this is probably the same crowd as the “facts don’t care about your feelings” but they’d rather listen to what the Nazis claimed than what the actual evidence suggests

If you want to refute antisemitic dog whistles I might not be the best person to ask, im not Jewish, but there are two in particular that are really common and easy to refute “271k” This is the figure given for the number of Jewish deaths during WW2 from the German red cross. Obviously not the most objective source, but even if it was correct (its not), its not suddenly ok to murder 271k innocent people.

Yeah I know lol, why I said they’re using the cited nazi numbers over the real facts 😭

“109” or 109 bars” This is roughly the number of countries Jews were expelled from. It was wrong every single time, and this was over the course of hundreds of years. I doubt the people posting this would say the Germans being expelled from dozens of Eastern European countries proved they were doing something wrong.

“Early life section” This is a dog whistle about how many important historical figures were Jewish or came from Jewish families. This is meant to make Jews seem like they are behind all levers of power, but really you could do this trick with any ethnicity. I saw a satirical chart, mocking Neo-Nazi meme formats, showing all the bankers with Irish heritage. You can also do this trick with Freemasons and stuff and it looks just as bad without context.

on this “early life section” stuff though, it’s important to remember that historically Jews were forced into banking and entertainment at different periods because they used to be considered “dirty” jobs, until they gradually became more accepted and profitable.
