Not OP but I do believe that conversely, if the gov pays for your healthcare, they should be able to dictate certain things (to a reasonable extent), such as banning smoking or other unhealthy habits for public healthcare recipients
Without even mentioning bodily autonomy, if the government DOES NOT pay for your healthcare, then they SHOULD NOT be able to tell you what medical decisions you can or cannot make.

I feel it would be more beneficial to simply mandate some level of treatment options than to outright ban something. Like smokers must enroll in a nicotine addiction program for example. Esp depending how broadly you define “unhealthy habits”, bc the people who have the most “unhealthy habits” are poor people, who adopt them out of necessity, who would be the most in need of public healthcare

For sure! Of course it depends on the substance or habit itself. “Unhealthy habits” is also very broad ofc, and would need litigation. I do agree with treatment programs and such but the end goal should be 100% addiction free + using it as prevention for addiction
