It costs the government about $17000 to deport an illegal immigrant to which they do using government funding rather than charging the person they need to deport otherwise deportations wouldn’t be happening because no one would be paying to leave. Trump actually offered illegal immigrants $1000 if they were to self deport, offering a dignified route that wouldn’t include arresting or detaining. They’d just be sent back, and even bbc reported on it
