Could be alleviated through expanding the House of Representatives and every state having independent redistricting commissions. To your point federal legislation is a good step too.

No that’s true as someone who does gerrymandering for fun and also analysis maps done. California could be a 52-0 state seeing how republicans are usually concentrated in a rural area. The California map got 0 challenges from the gop as well

I mean yeah, by banning gerrymandering on a state level, California is essentially giving votes away to republicans.
So yeah I mean- it is kind of a “they go low, we go high” approach which will functionally just lose national elections
