Lots of thoughts on the whole fiasco, so I’ll give just a thought I have. I think it’s obvious for America to give continuous support for Ukraine. In the early 1990’s Ukraine signed a deal with the U.S saying they will not create nuclear weapons and in return the U.S will protect Ukraine from any threat of invasion in the future. If America wants to make deals, we need to have a history of respecting them. We can’t be wishy-washy on this stuff. Right now Trump is going around making economic …
And geopolitical deals while having a long history of anti Ukraine rhetoric. How can your words be trusted if you have been shown to go against America’s wishes (this is a theme with this administration, we can talk further if needed). We need to keep supporting Ukraine in the fight, if not for ethical or political reasons, then to show the world the U.S can keep deals
Very difficult thing to do. Let’s first discuss what the problem is. I think the problem with the electoral college is it disproportionately gives some voters more power than others just based off location. I think this is a deeper feature of congress than a lot of people realize. The size of HoR used to grow to match the size of America’s population, so that each representative in the house had only so many constituents. The house hasn’t increased their size in who knows how long. Now we have …
A singular representative representing a million plus people. Congress, in my opinion, is useless now for representing the American people. Because of electoral college, because of size stagnation, because of citizens United v. FEC allowing superpacs. Congress does not work for the people, but rather for wealthy people who need favors
I think it’s a difficult road ahead of us to take back congress for the working person. And I think a lot of the antiestablishment democrats (AOC, Mamdani, bernie, etc) are fighting for this future. The power is in the people’s hands to elect those who are willing to make change on behalf of the Americans who elect them. We need to back these new faces because they are the path to an America by the people, for the people.
It’s so early I don’t think it’s possible to have an answer. I will say I don’t think the Dems will run Kamala again. Maybe Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsome, AOC, or Josh Shapiro. I’d say look into those people if you wanna know who the Dems would run. For the right, if Trump runs for a third term there’s no way the republicans win. Assuming somehow the Supreme Court allows it (not out of the realm of possibility), there are not enough fully MAGA pilled people in America to allow that to happen…
If Don Jr or Vance run, I still think the Dems got it. There’s this idea called the political pendulum, where America doesn’t elect two presidents of the same party since like Reagan. I think as people become angry at the government, they want change, and vote against the incubate party. I think more than half of America is tired of Trump already. I don’t think the Republican Party has 2028 (We’ll see how the midterms go)
I thought I should also give my history so people can ask more specific questions. I’m getting a bachelors degree in math and education, minor in physics and data science. I plan to teach out of college and get a masters in education public policy and go down the state level dept. of education track. Right now I’m doing a poverty internship in a deeply racially divided American city. I think the best way to help others is to be as local as possible. That’s why I moved here this summer.
If you’re looking for a satisfying answer I don’t think I can give it. We’re too early in the election cycle and nobody knows whatever Trump has planned. There’s too much uncertainty about the future. Though in my optimistic opinion I am not all that afraid. This isn’t an opinion based on fact but rather a gut feeling. America has gone through a lot, and I’m confident we can go over one more bump. It is scary we have to worry about a 3rd term at all.
