For everyone enjoying this moment in politics, don’t. It’s gonna get worse by 2032. My advice is to leave the country while you can.

A lot of what actually happens is going to depend on what happens to MAGA after Trump and the wether or not the people elected within the next few years actually care to undo the damage that’s been done. I have an out (citizenship by descent) but I’d prefer not to leave the US unless it gets really bad

23 year old here. OP is not entirely wrong. I'm not Democrat or Republican. I vote blue for the most part, but I think independently. The Democratic party is failing on marginalized people and exploiting fear to extract more support. And the GOP is playing the reciprocal role in that dynamic by enacting the violence that democrats get to use as rhetoric, and then do just enough to keep support. It's a vicious cycle.

The more we keep pandering to the lesser of two evils, the further the bar drops into hell. America collapsing is not necessarily doom. Forest fires, while destructive, are an important part of forest health because they provide fertile soil and in pine trees comes open up. None of that regrowth would happen without the destruction. The constructs of america are not what defines the life inhabiting the land.

So you’re a child too… we have spent half of our lives in the climate. We don’t know any different. We haven’t lived through any different. But leaving the country?! Are you serious?! God you two are so damn dramatic. Nowhere will get better overnight, or even over one term. It takes time so cut the doomer shit and grow up

Not philosophy, it's botany. Lodgepole and jack pines have serotinous cones sealed in resin that only open with fire heat. Decades of Smokey Bear-style suppression let fuel pile up, which is why the West now gets megafires instead of small cleansing burns. That's the point: suppress every small correction and you don't avoid the fire, you just make the eventual one worse. If an analogy confuses you, that's a reading problem, not a me problem.

You opened by mocking OP's age, called me a child, told me to grow up, then called me an idiot over an analogy. That's four insults and zero arguments. Serotinous cones are real, look it up. Putting out every fire is what built up the fuel behind today's megafires. Propping up a failing system out of fear does the same thing. Come back with a point.

Get help? I’m not the one dooming an entire country. We survived a civil war. Maybe you should take your own advice.

Surviving isn't the same as healing. Right after the war, Southern states passed Black Codes and used the 13th Amendment's "except as punishment for crime" loophole to lease prisoners back into forced labor. Reconstruction was abandoned in 1877 and Jim Crow filled the gap. That line runs straight to mass incarceration today. We didn't recover from the Civil War, we just stopped treating the wound.

Inequality isn't uniform, it's heterogeneous. Nine of the ten highest incarceration rates on earth are US states, and nationally we lock people up at 5–14x the rate of Canada, Sweden or Germany. "Same shit everywhere" only works if you've never looked at a single comparison. And "ok nerd" isn't a rebuttal.

Okay chat gpt calm down. So what you’re doing right now is running about 10 miles off topic, and that’s what I’m giving you shit for. You don’t need to do all that extra shit.

You brought up the Civil War, I answered it. That's following your lead, not going off topic. You've spent this whole thread on insults without making one argument. Anyone reading can see that. I'm good here.

God our education system has gone to shit… the civil war was an example of this country surviving worse. Not a commentary on the long term consequences of it. You went off topic, that’s like you bring up botany and me trying to argue about whether a tomato is a fruit. I haven’t made a point?! Are you fucking blind?! How confident are you in your stupidity? No wonder I insult you, it’s the only thing that gets through your thick skull

Who's "we"? The 4 million enslaved people who got 12 years of Reconstruction before the North walked away? The thousands lynched after? Tulsa? Black vets shut out of the GI Bill? Families redlined out of building wealth for generations? "We survived" is what you say from the side that got to move on. A lot of people never got that option, and their grandkids are still paying for it. Calling that survival isn't optimism, it's erasure.

And that's the thing about propaganda, it works best on people who think they're immune. The same textbooks that taught "we survived the Civil War" taught Manifest Destiny like it was a road trip instead of forced removal, broken treaties and the Trail of Tears. You weren't taught history, you were taught a vibe. That part's not your fault. Refusing to let go of it is.

You know who WE is you fucking dumbass. This country. I wasn’t taught a vibe btw you pompous ass. I grew up in Cherokee county. I go to school in Tulsa. So don’t fucking lecture me like I don’t know. This isn’t fucking about that. Because that will never get better if we all become sad sacks of shit like you just give up. It will never get better unless we make it better. You’re a fucking disgrace to everyone who died to get to where we are today. Who sacrificed themselves for a better future

You grew up in Cherokee County and think leaving to survive is cowardice? Harriet Tubman fled. Frederick Douglass fled. Six million Black Southerners fled in the Great Migration, and that's half the reason anything changed. The people you say I'm disgracing ran so their kids could live. You don't get to wave their sacrifice around while shitting on the exact thing they did. Fleeing harm isn't giving up. Shaming people for it is how you keep them trapped.
