The African American colonization of Liberia, the Afro-British colonization of Sierra Leone, the Japanese colonization of Korea, and parts of the Scots colonization of Northern Ireland were all people settler colonizing places their ancestors originated from. Settler colonialism is a distinct process, not “were your ancestors ever here before”

In settler colonialism, settlers go to a place where they permanently live and raise families. This strengthens colonial control on the territory, and decreases the population share of the indigenous group, making resistance less likely.

In the West Bank, we are seeing the first stage. People are moving there and starting to raise their families as they displaced Palestinians. While Israel is where that already happened. It’s like the eastern USA (colonized for a long time) vs the western USA (site of settler colonial expansion into a new territory) in the 1800s.
