I think one of the issues about creationists viewing disease as a result of original sin and thus trying to get around the problem of evil is that diseases are caused by actual organisms. Like this isn’t a vague force there are worms that live in eyeballs

I think this partly comes from the pre-germ theory of disease understanding of disease. It seems like the suffering of disease is a vague unexplained force. It comes as cosmic punishment and can be cured by miracles. That’s also why it can be caused by original sin

creationists are always funny to me bc it’s like something we believe as kids and grow out of it even if we aren’t religious. even i was in kindergarten at a Catholic school reading about creationism and i recall thinking “hmmm that doesn’t seem quite right” although it is funny to imagine my MIL’s story of my partner as a child groaning “ughhh why did Adam and Eve have to sin?” every time before he vomited 😂😂

But like no, turns out disease is caused by little guys. Little dudes that live inside you and mess you up. Either original sin somehow created a huge proportion of the diversity of life on earth, or God made like a little eyeball-burrowing worm that had nothing to do until original sin happened and he could start his eyeball burrowing.

Disease is also extremely diverse and subjective. An organism or biological process that can be helpful in one case could be harmful in another. It makes no sense to try to group this all under “original sin stuff”
