I love how AI got so fucked up by the AI Ghibli trend that now basically every image in a cartoonish style has this yellow piss filter over the whole thing lol, you guys ruined your own fun

Even the most basic finger paintings and stick figures carry more value than gen-ai art because they weren’t spat out by an algorithm that stole from other artworks to make it.

Nah I agree I’d rather real art but it’s your opinion that’s it’s bad/slop

I think everyone can agree that art theft and detrimental environmental impacts are objectively bad, which are both things. gen-ai does. It goes beyond my opinion of its quality, it has direct negative impacts on the world.

I think you also might have a slight misunderstanding of how ai works. I’m sure you’ve seen that whole thing online about “one prompt burns 10 gallons of water” and fortunately that’s just not true it uses X amount of gallons and then that water is then cooled again and reused. Yes there’s some loss but it’s not nearly what you are thinking it is

Gen Ai does use significant amounts of energy. Training large language models on average can use over 1,000 megawatts per hour according to MIT. According to WSJ, ai data centers now account for 12% of energy usage on the U.S. it’s a significant impact that is entirely unnecessary when you consider what it’s used for and what is gained from it.
