The Older I get the more I realize that Protestants are the reason everything has gone to shit. It literally all started with the puritans.

Im atheist as they come but I do think the development of Protestant thought as a contrast to Catholicism and the resulting religious persecution was pretty important in developing modern concepts of religious freedom and separation of church and state as an important value.

Like people didn’t come up with religious freedom as a concept out of concern for Jewish and Muslim minorities. It was because the Catholics and Anglicans kept persecuting other Christian sects.
