That is a 6th grade understanding It’s depressing you have such a binary understanding of hundreds of years of history. Many democrats were not pro slavery and many republicans did not want to end slavery. ‘If you oppose racism then you’re a Democrat’ is silly. No political party in the world judges people based only on their race like the Democrat party
I didn’t say that, I don’t believe that, and I made that clear by saying that 1861 South Carolina democrats are not the democrats of today. I submit to you that politics and Americans are more complicated than red team blue team I submit to you that people don’t hate you for being different, they hate you because they’re afraid you might be a good person and would shatter their worldview
I would argue the party switch, as it is taught, is ahistorical. There is no magic switch in 1964 where republicans and democrats switched sides on everything. Democrats started moving less conservative in the 1920s and 1930s, and weren’t truly progressive and liberal until the 1980s 1990s Republicans lost minority support in the 1930s, pushed civil rights reform through the 50s and 60s, and by the 80s pivoted towards conservative politics, and did not have control over the south until 2000.
so the party switch, a term that refers to democrats and republicans ideologically swapping conservatism and progressivism, is "ahistorical," but also democrats went from conservative to progressive from the 20s to the 90s, and republicans did the opposite over the same time frame? is that what youre trying to say? or is what you said not what you meant
It is a middle school, baby’s first politics description to say that the parties switched in the 60s-70s Boomers are unbelievably narcissistic, and watching the Southeast and northeast generally flip parties from their youth to their old age, and have cursed us by summing all that history up into one stupid term they repeat incessantly. Eventually, you become old enough to have a more educated opinion.
thanks for the reddit posts that completely ignores the concept that progressivism and conservatism are relative to their time period. lincoln's abolition (that he didnt really support that much) was progressive. but sure! lets listen to 54k reddit karma u/Truth-or-Peace and their certainly unquestionable facts and logic about how the party switch is a silly concept because policies are different now than they were then
yea yea call it cope when its literally me pointing out what is a progressive concept but that destroys 54k of reddit karma worth of arguing for you even if they werent arguing even remotely the same subject and just gave a breakdown that is at best tangentially related to what is discussed here now fuck off you piece of filth. try making a friend that isnt an insufferable fuckwit that cant speak honestly and cant read to save their lives. try to learn what speaking in good faith is
go get your political opinions from r/conservative or r/libertarian or r/constitutionalist or whatever the fuck stupid reddit community you deem the most knowledgeable because redditors are famously intelligent and educated individuals and not bumfuck idiots talking out of their ass
