So looking into this… they apparently have zero trans children in their care and are not seeking to adopt any trans identified children. The state is revoking their adoption licenses based on a hypothetical because of their religious beliefs, and are threatening to take away their already adopted kids.
Only half right. They have not adopted any children. They only foster kids younger than 6, so they thought it shouldn’t apply to them and shouldn’t have to sign the new agreement. When told they do have to sign it, they still refused to, so they assume their fostering license will be revoked and the 18 month old foster child they’ve had since it was 2 months old will be relocated
It’s a tricky question, because on one hand? Maybe taking the kids they aren’t going to permanently adopt in the first place is pretty extreme. But on the other hand, if you think it’s not gonna affect you either way, and the alternative is your foster kids being relocated, what’s the harm in signing it? It strikes me as trying to make some kind of statement regardless
Apparently they’re not even fighting it, just don’t want to sign and haven’t been clearly told what’s going to happen. The family that is suing in federal court is doing so due to the loosely worded format of the new rules. What’s considered affirming isn’t clearly defined, so they argue it will be used to disqualify any Christian foster parents regardless of behavior/tolerance/affirmation they do provide to the kids (i doubt the plan to accept trans kids tho)
Yknow I wonder when certain Christians will get the message that not everything slightly progressive is out to get them 😭 no guys, this isn’t religious discrimination. Maybe they should more clearly define what they mean by affirming a kids gender but it’s not some weird liberal plot to bar god fearing Christians like yall from adopting
The thing about fostering is that the custody of the child is still held by the state. So you’re acting as a state agent during their time in your home. Your personal liberties kind of go out the window when you’re acting as an agent of the state. The state’s policy is children must be referred to in accordance to their self identified preferences, and gender affirming clothing must be provided. If you can’t do that, which you’re being paid to do, yeah job fired, license revoked.
