Well now I’m interested. What were the reasons you gave? Maybe, they didn’t like hearing your specific perspective. There’s a lot of people that see certain perspectives as some kind of attack on their own.

scared of death religion provides a moral basis that people wouldn’t normally adhere to on their own before psychology became widespread and secularism grew. was a way to bind community with common ground. a way to get people to socialize when they otherwise wouldn’t have had a reason to congregate. it still acts as this even though it’s no longer as necessary

Ah okay, yes, I would also add that religion also served as a way to move various ideas, such as cleanliness, preserving resources, morals, and other things

gives you an intrinsic sense of purpose and direction as well, which I’d argue is the most important point
