So there was this kid who was at the scene of the assassination, he took photos of the whole event from right next to the stage. His film and camera were taken by the LAPD for evidence. Years later it was found out that Daryl Gates ordered them burned as “routine disposal”, all the while no written statements about the photos contents were preserved

This is the same Daryl Gates who had hundreds to thousands of undercover operatives in foreign nations, let alone other states/cities Undercover LAPD officers doing covert operations in foreign countries.

Eventually, word got out about his massive espionage ring and he was removed. Shortly after, he created DARE. There was a team at Stanford (I think) that was studying the dare program itself, under a different name. They found it increased youth drug use, but also increased the number of students reporting drug use. Guess which part Gates actually cared about?

So, he got Cops into schools all around the nation. “Hey kids, don’t do drugs! But hey, if you know someone who is using drugs, even if it’s mommy and daddy, you should tell us. Write it down in our anonymous letter box and we’ll make sure there’s no more criminals!”
