Also there already was a ceasefire. Hamas broke it 15 mins later by firing more rockets

What was unacceptable about it?

The fact that they wanted to have a permanent one off the bat without ensuring the safety of all of the hostages

Wym wouldn’t a permanent ceasefire mean they wouldn’t harm the hostages?

Ceasefire only means ends of trading fire. Hostage deal is different and needs to be done prior to a ceasefire deal

Why does it need to be done prior?

Personally speaking, I see it like the trolley problem. You either continue letting thousands die over months, or you make a few dozen wait out a longer period as captives. Neither is a good option, but I think one is far superior to the other.

Well obviously a government is going to continue a war fighting on the premises of freeing THEIR people from a terrorist group that is starving and killing them. The people of Gaza are Hamas’s responsibility and clearly they don’t care too much about them.

Neither does Israel by the looks of it. In war, it is EVERYONES responsibility to avoid civilian casualties. That’s why we have things like the Geneva convention, international war crime commissions, etc.

Not much u can do fighting in one of the most densely populated regions on earth against terrorists who harbor weapons in civilian areas and use their own people as human shields

Not to mention that the Hamas Health Ministry has been caught lying about death statistics the entire war

You can send troops in. Israel is valuing the lives of their trained soldiers over the lives of civilians.

Which I get, I don’t want their troops to die either. But that doesn’t give you the moral authority to bomb civilians, even if it’s accidental. If it’s continuous, it’s horrifying negligence at best. Intentional at worst.

Also I think it’s important to state that statistically speaking, they have the lowest civilian:combatant kill ratio of any war in modern times despite fighting in such a densely populated region against a foe who stores weapons in civilian areas and use their people as human shields. Negligence isn’t the problem, bad publicity is

If the ratio isn’t 0, they can do better. I am curious where you find that stat tho, I’d like to compare them to other wars

I forget where it was it was some video from the UN i think from like a year ago so I’m not sure it’s still accurate but it was detailing Gaza’s death toll compared to other wars like US in Afghan was 1:9 and US in Iraq was 1:4, so 1:1 in a way denser area is crazy impressive. Of course you hope for it to be 0, but it’s illogical.
