It still gets me that hanging and firing squads have largely been banned for being "inhumane", while lethal injections almost never work, take hours, are apparently excruciating, and *cannot* be administered by licensed doctors
tf you mean she survived 2 lethal injections???

I also think it’s fucking hilarious that the sacklers won’t sell fentanyl or morphine to states for the purpose of painless executions but are just fine giving bonuses to doctors for getting people addicted to them

I thought the doctor thing was just because they’d all refuse based on their hippopotamus oath

Firing squad is actually considered the most humane execution method. Lethal injection is considered one of the most inhumane.

it’s all about the illusion of it being painless!!! like reading about the man who’s execution method was nitrogen hypoxia (thinking it’d be even MORE painless than lethal injection) is chilling lol

They work like 99% of the time you just never hear about most of them

Lethal injection has the highest failure rate (7.2%) so actually they only work 92.8% of the time

Wait what happened to him? That should actually be painless. Freaky but true, you can’t tell when you’re suffocating, your body just goes by whether or not it can get rid of CO2

they didn’t sedate him, so he could feel himself suffocating. he held his breath for a few minutes too which made it worse. apparently the coroner’s office reported his blood was extremely dark & there was like. foam in his trachea & fluid in his lungs

Reading up on it, it looks like the biggest problem was just fear, which makes sense. That’s what a sedative could’ve helped. He only felt like he was suffocating because he held his breath, though. The human body really truly has no idea how much oxygen it’s getting. I also couldn’t find anything corroborating the foam or lung fluid part

“examination reveals pulmonary congestion and edema” “the tracheobronchial tree…contains a small amount of frothy fluid” so i misspoke w using the word foam

Yeah, that also makes sense in a really dark way. He was in a mask, strapped flat to a table, and terrified by understanding what was happening to him. It’s not weird that he choked on some of his own saliva as it happened

yeah im not saying its weird or out of the ordinary, it’s pretty typical of suffocating, i just find it eerie. especially the involuntary thrashing/struggling/groaning/gasping that seems to happen. lol
